Handicap Parking Space Striping & Marking Services

Parking lot striping might seem like a simple cosmetic task, but when it comes to handicap parking spaces, the stakes are much higher. The ADA has strict requirements for the number, size, spacing, and marking of accessible parking spaces, and even minor deviations can leave your commercial property exposed to fines, legal action, and accessibility complaints. Faded or missing International Symbol of Accessibility markings, incorrect access aisle widths, or improperly designated van-accessible spaces are among the most common violations found during parking lot inspections.

C & D Commercial Services provides professional handicap parking space striping and marking services that ensure your property meets every ADA requirement while maintaining a crisp, professional appearance. Since 1981, we have served over 400 commercial properties throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, delivering precise pavement markings that stand up to Texas heat, heavy traffic, and ongoing weather exposure. Our striping crews use traffic-grade paint and stencils that produce clean, durable lines and symbols that remain clearly visible for years.

ADA-Compliant Parking Lot Striping Standards

The ADA establishes specific criteria for accessible parking spaces that go far beyond painting a blue line and a wheelchair symbol. The total number of accessible spaces required depends on your parking facility’s total capacity. For example, a lot with 1 to 25 total spaces requires at least one accessible space, while a lot with 501 to 1000 spaces requires at least 11 accessible spaces, including two van-accessible spaces. Each accessible space must be paired with an adjacent access aisle—at least 60 inches wide for car spaces and 96 inches wide for van spaces—that provides room for wheelchair deployment and transfer.

Van-accessible spaces also require at least 98 inches of vertical clearance at the parking space, access aisle, and along the entire vehicular route serving that space. Striping must clearly delineate the access aisle with diagonal hash marks to prevent unauthorized parking in these critical areas. The International Symbol of Accessibility must be painted prominently on the pavement at each accessible space, and signs must be installed at the head of each space confirming its designation. Our crews handle every aspect of this process, from measuring and layout to painting and verification.

Our Handicap Parking Striping Services

  • Correct Number & Spacing of Accessible Spaces: We calculate the exact number of accessible spaces required for your lot based on total parking capacity and ADA ratios. Each space is laid out with precise measurements to ensure proper width, access aisle clearance, and adjacent circulation paths that meet federal standards.
  • International Symbol of Accessibility (ISA) Painting: We paint crisp, fade-resistant ISA stencils at every designated accessible parking space using high-contrast white or blue traffic-grade paint. Stencils are properly sized and oriented so they are clearly visible from a vehicle approaching the space.
  • Van-Accessible Markings: Spaces designated for van use must include the additional text designation on both the pavement and the accompanying signage. We apply these markings accurately to ensure your van-accessible spaces comply with the wider access aisle and clearance requirements.
  • Access Aisle Hash Marking: We paint diagonal hash lines within each access aisle to clearly communicate that these zones are not parking spaces. Proper hash marking prevents encroachment and preserves the usable width for wheelchair deployment.

Traffic-Grade Paint for Long-Lasting Results

One of the biggest differences between professional striping and amateur work is the quality of the materials. C & D Commercial Services uses only traffic-grade pavement paint that is formulated to withstand heavy vehicle traffic, UV exposure, oil and fuel spills, and extreme temperature swings common in North Texas. Unlike hardware store spray paint that fades and peels within months, our markings maintain their color and definition for years, reducing the frequency of restriping and keeping your parking lot looking professional between maintenance cycles.

We also offer comprehensive parking lot marking services beyond handicap spaces, including fire lane painting, directional arrows, stop bars, crosswalks, speed bumps, and bumper blocks. By bundling your striping needs into a single service call, you save time and money while achieving a uniform, professional look across your entire parking facility. Protecting your property from ADA liability while maintaining excellent curb appeal starts with proper markings.
