Steel Bollard Installation for Commercial Properties

C & D Commercial Services installs heavy-duty steel bollards that protect commercial buildings, storefronts, pedestrians, and critical infrastructure from vehicle impact across the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. Since 1981, our licensed and insured crews have engineered and set thousands of concrete-filled steel posts for retail centers, office towers, warehouses, parking garages, and municipal facilities throughout North Texas. Every steel bollard we install is specified for the actual impact risk at its location — not simply dropped into a hole as a decorative afterthought.

What Steel Bollards Protect on Commercial Properties

Steel bollards are the workhorse of commercial vehicle barrier systems. A properly engineered steel post absorbs and transfers the energy of a moving vehicle into the ground, stopping the vehicle before it reaches the structure or person behind it. On DFW commercial properties, steel bollards defend against several specific hazards:

  • Vehicle-into-building crashes at storefronts and entryways that cause structural damage, injuries, and liability claims
  • Accidental or intentional vehicle intrusion into pedestrian walkways and outdoor seating areas
  • Impact damage to gas meters, fire hydrants, electrical panels, and HVAC condensers mounted near drive lanes
  • Ram-raid and vehicle-based theft attempts at building corners, roll-up doors, and loading docks
  • Uncontrolled traffic flow in loading areas, drive-through lanes, and parking garage entrances

How C & D Engineers Every Steel Bollard Installation

Our approach treats each bollard as a site-specific vehicle barrier, not a generic post. We evaluate traffic patterns, vehicle types, approach speeds, soil and pavement conditions, and setback distances before specifying the post. Standard steel bollards are fabricated from 6-inch or 8-inch diameter schedule 40 steel pipe, filled with concrete for maximum impact resistance, and installed using one of three engineered foundation methods selected for the surface and impact load.

For existing concrete slabs — the most common scenario on commercial parking lots and sidewalks — we core-drill through the slab with diamond tooling, clean the hole, set the concrete-filled post, and secure it with epoxy adhesive anchors or non-shrink grout. For new construction or unpaved areas, we pour a dedicated concrete footing below frost depth and set the bollard before the concrete cures. Where slab penetration is not feasible, we surface-mount heavy base plates with mechanical anchors into the concrete substrate. Each method transfers the full impact load into the ground rather than relying on surface concrete alone.

Finishes and Spacing for Commercial Impact Protection

Steel bollards are available in galvanized finish for corrosion resistance, powder-coated finish in safety yellow, black, or custom colors to match property branding, and painted finish with reflective tape bands for high-visibility traffic areas. For storefront protection, C & D typically installs bollards 36 to 48 inches apart center-to-center and positions them 24 to 36 inches from the building face — close enough that a passenger vehicle cannot pass between posts, while preserving pedestrian access. For high-risk locations such as gas meters and building corners near drive lanes, we upsize the diameter, wall thickness, and foundation depth to meet the required impact load.

Why DFW Property Managers Choose C & D

Many local contractors install lightweight posts without concrete filling or adequate foundation depth, producing bollards that bend or break loose under the first real impact. C & D specifies concrete-filled schedule 40 steel with engineered foundations, correct spacing, and proper anchoring for every pavement type — verified for plumb, alignment, and finish quality. That is how we have protected North Texas commercial properties under the same ownership for more than 40 years.
